From Our President

Dear Quilting Friends,

May is a month of renewal, color, and creativity—much like quilting itself! As the flowers bloom and the days grow longer, I hope you're finding fresh inspiration in nature, your fabric stash, or perhaps even that UFO you've been meaning to finish.

Our guild continues to grow not only in numbers but in heart. Last month's show-and-tell was a reminder of the incredible talent and diversity of styles within our group. Thank you all for sharing your work and encouraging one another—it’s truly what makes our guild special.

This month, we're looking forward to our speaker, Erin Grogan, who will lead us through “ the four stages of a quilter”.  She then shares her process for finding the color palette that represents you.  This will be a Zoom.

Finally, with summer on the horizon, I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on what quilting brings to your life—whether it’s peace, challenge, connection, or joy. Let’s carry that spirit into all we create.

Warmly,

Dana Sederoff

President, Scrapbasket Quilt Guild

Programs and Workshops

May Program - May 20

Erin Grogan from Love Sew Modern,
presents “Finding Your Quilty Identity”

“This lecture dives into the discovery of who you are as an artist and quilter. I’ve met many wonderful quilters who feel like they don’t know what they “like.” They say things like they only make quilts from kits or feel like they have to use what fabric is currently popular. There’s nothing wrong with this approach if it brings you joy, but if you’re looking to grow this is the lecture for you. I break down the four different stages of a quilter. I then share my process for finding the color palette that represents you.”

June Program - June 17

Catherine Redford presents:  Lessons Learned while Quilting

“I offer an inspiring and entertaining yet informative lecture, Lessons Learned While Quilting. I use professionally shot photographs projected on a screen for a really good look at my quilts and bring a selection of items for even closer examination!”

  June Workshop - Wednesday, June 18, 2025

Workshop with Catherine Redford:  Beginning English Paper Piecing

“Learn the time honored technique of English Paper Piecing using pre-cut card templates. Stitch a simple flower and appliqué it to a background ready for a small pillow or mug rug. You will be introduced to some traditional and more innovative quilts to inspire your next project. Use hexagon paper to draw out your design and be ready with an ideal take along activity.”

July Program - July 15

Sarah Thomas of Sariditty presents: A One Woman Show

Sarah is a licensed commercial pilot who graduated from Purdue whose Gramma and mom taught her to enjoy crafts and handwork from a young age. She says “it’s only fitting I discovered the quilting world - where art meets math & magic happens!” She discovered that she had a knack for free motion quilting and has named her style “sketchbook quilting”. She also designs patterns and fabric.

Beth Archer

May is here and all the fun that goes with it.  This month’s challenge is themed: Race Day fun OR Spring Flowers.  Fabric manipulation is the featured technique.  Can’t wait to see your interpretation of this month’s challenge block.

Remember, if you want to work ahead, the Block Challenges are posted on our website.  Remember, you get to choose the block size and color palette and be as creative as you would like.  Use these block to challenge yourself to try new techniques or perfect them AND to try different color palettes. Channel your creative side.

Are you already thinking ahead to the SHOWCASE?  Your quilts and projects made from the blocks you created will be the STAR of the show, complete with a friendly contest and prizes.

We love seeing your completed blocks each month.  If you are running a little behind…no worries, plenty of time to catch up.  Our final showcase will be in December.

Donation Quilts
Cindi Johnson

March and April I would like to particularly gather lots of quilts and /or pillowcases for ages 0-18 to donate to Project Linus.  Here is a link to Project Linus website for some pattern ideas.   Any patterns for quilts are great, you don’t have to purchase theirs if you don’t want to. But if you are looking for new patterns check them out!

Thanks for all of your donations!!

Fundraising

First of all I want to thank all the members who have offered suggestions, cautions, and lessons based on personal experience.  So appreciated as we navigate this new terrain.  Your comments are definitely heard and recognized.

Here is where we are now.  Based on experience, members feel that simple, lower-priced items will do best.  With that in mind, we will focus on items priced at $25 or less.  We will have some kitted items to make at Staycation and know that you all are aware of so many options available online.   Bowl Cozies are an everlasting commodity, I am told!

We are initially signed up for The Bow Wow Bash at Misty Eyes Rescue on September 28th.  This will be held in Washington Township Park from 10:30-5:00.  The best part of this is there is no “booth charge” so we have nothing to lose testing the water.

In the future we are looking at Calvary Methodist Church on October 11th, and St. Malachy on November 8th.

It has also been suggested that we, as members, have the option to “Shop First”.  We could have a table set up in the arrival area where items would be available to us to purchase from member donations.  Would LOVE to have a volunteer offer to help with this.

We will take this journey one step at a time.  Your input, support, and suggestions are invaluable.

Quilts of Valor

A New Year and A New Quilt Block

QOV is going on hiatus for a few months while I recover from surgery.

BUT, don’t let that stop you and your friends from getting a head start on a QOV.  The block this year is the log cabin. Directions with measurements, colors, and suggestions for settings can be found on the QOVF.org web page.  The block is fun, fast, and easy.  If you are cutting out one block, you might as well cut out a few more.

As in the past the guild will provide batting and backing for your quilt tops.

I will eventually have some block kits and pillowcase kits for you to do.

As always, Kay was over the moon thrilled with the quilts we made last year.  She always says we do outstanding, quality work.

Info

Member to Member

This is an opportunity for you to list quilting items/supplies/patterns that you no longer want.

Small Pins for Crafting:  Do you have some small dressmaker pins that you no longer need or use?  (My grandma had a whole pint jar of them.)  I am looking for some small pins to use for a craft project.  They should have a small flat head.  I've you'd like to get rid of your collection of them, I'd be happy to take them off your hands.  BUT, I will not be a the May meeting.  Please bring them in June.  Thanks very much for your help.
