From Our President

Dear Quilting Friends,

As we welcome the warmth and energy of June, I’m reminded how much quilting mirrors the seasons—each one bringing its own inspiration, challenges, and rewards. Summer, with its long days and bright light, is the perfect time to explore new patterns, finish those UFOs, or simply sit with a cool drink and stitch with friends.

Our guild has been buzzing with creativity, and I continue to be amazed by the talent, generosity, and spirit you all bring to our meetings. Whether it's through sharing your latest project during Show & Tell or lending a hand with fundraising efforts, each of you helps stitch together the strong fabric of our quilting community.

This month, we’re looking forward to a repeat visit from Catherine Redford, who will share “Lessons Learned While Quilting”.  Catherine is a great speaker with a delightful English accent, and I am sure it will be an outstanding program.  On Wednesday, June 18th, she will present a workshop at Trailside Church on English Paper Piecing.  You won’t want to miss that!  Details on the workshop are provided elsewhere in the newsletter.  Be sure to mark your calendars and invite a friend—these gatherings are always more fun when shared.

If the summer heat slows your stitching down, don’t worry—quilting isn’t a race. Whether you’re tackling a king-size masterpiece or hand-sewing hexies in the shade, remember: every stitch is progress.

Wishing you joy in your quilting and cool breezes in your sewing room!

Warmly,

Dana Sederoff

President, Scrapbasket Quilt Guild

Catherine Redford presents:  Lessons Learned while Quilting

“I offer an inspiring and entertaining yet informative lecture, Lessons Learned While Quilting. I use professionally shot photographs projected on a screen for a really good look at my quilts and bring a selection of items for even closer examination!”

Workshop with Catherine Redford:  Beginning English Paper Piecing

“Learn the time honored technique of English Paper Piecing using pre-cut card templates. Stitch a simple flower and appliqué it to a background ready for a small pillow or mug rug. You will be introduced to some traditional and more innovative quilts to inspire your next project. Use hexagon paper to draw out your design and be ready with an ideal take along activity.”

July Program - July 15

Sarah Thomas of Sariditty presents: A One Woman Show

Sarah is a licensed commercial pilot who graduated from Purdue whose Gramma and mom taught her to enjoy crafts and handwork from a young age. She says “it’s only fitting I discovered the quilting world - where art meets math & magic happens!” She discovered that she had a knack for free motion quilting and has named her style “sketchbook quilting”. She also designs patterns and fabric.

Assistance Requested with Program Ideas
Calling all members for your input and suggestions for 2026 programs.  I seem to be hitting a lot of brick walls in my efforts and could really use your ideas.  Kristi has done such a great job this year, and she is really going to be a hard act to follow!  I don’t want to let you down.

We saw in April that Zoom meetings can be very instructive.  Techniques were shown that could not have been seen in person.  Personally, I would love to see a program on different binding techniques.  Have you noted someone on You-Tube, a podcast, or at another guild meeting you have attended that really caught your interest.  Please share any suggestion and I will research and follow up.  Your help is very appreciated.

Block of the Month & Challenges
Beth Archer

June is the PicNic month.  We have recommended paper piecing… but please feel free to use other techniques.  Can’t wait to see your interpretation of this month’s challenge block.

Remember, if you want to work ahead, the Block Challenges are posted on our website.  Remember, you get to choose the block size and color palette and be as creative as you would like.  Use these blocks to challenge yourself to try new techniques or perfect them AND to try different color palettes. Channel your creative side.

Are you already thinking ahead to the SHOWCASE?  Your quilts and projects made from the blocks you created will be the STAR of the show, complete with a friendly contest and prizes.

We love seeing your completed blocks each month.  If you are running a little behind… no worries, plenty of time to catch up.  Our final showcase will be in December.

Cheer
Rhonda Nelson

If you know of any Scrapbasket member needing a little cheer, please let Rhonda Nelson know. She will be happy to send a card from all of us. Thank you.
 Donation Quilts
Cindi Johnson

I have a bin of previously donated fabrics. If any quilters or Beelets want to pull fabrics from this bin to complete a quilt or quilt top, I will have the bin at the next meeting.
Please bring in your tops or finished quilts!
I will be making a run to Lafayette later this month to drop off children’s quilts  to Quilts for Kids. We had 8 quilts donated to Project Linus.
If anyone is interested, along with lap quilts for nursing homes, see the Quilted Hug website for a pattern to make quilted shawls. These come in handy during fall and winter months.
Thanks for all you do!!

Fundraising

The response from so many in support of our fundraising efforts has been inspiring!  Many thanks to The Staycation participants who dutifully worked through the dog bag holders.  They were a bit tedious and as one person said, “based on the effort these should sell for $100!!”.  Your dedication is seriously appreciated.  Keep up the good work and bring your items each month to share and inspire others.  We will have a table at The Bow Wow Bash at Misty Eyes Animal Center on September 28th from 12 PM – 5PM.

Quilts of Valor

I want to thank all the quilters who made lovely quilts and pillowcases for QOV.

Because of my illness, I am going to step down from being QOV Chairperson. It saddens me that I physically can’t do the job anymore. I will miss it.

If anyone would like to fill the position, see Dana or me. It could be one person or several. It might be a beelet. I have patterns, fabric, and a $400 budget that can be used. Think about it. Even if the guild makes one or two quilts a year, that would be fantastic. I will be glad to help you get started.

Also thank you for all the beautiful cards and wishes you sent me. They made me smile.

Info

Member to Member

This is an opportunity for you to list quilting items/supplies/patterns that you no longer want.

Small Pins for Crafting:  Do you have some small dressmaker pins that you no longer need or use?  (My grandma had a whole pint jar of them.)  I am looking for some small pins to use for a craft project.  They should have a small flat head.  I've you'd like to get rid of your collection of them, I'd be happy to take them off your hands.  Thanks very much for your help.
