August 2025

See You Tuesday!

Calvary United Methodist Church
575 W. Northfield Dr, Brownsburg.

It's Annual Auction Time!

OUR MEETING WILL START AT 6PM AND THERE WILL NOT BE ANY SHOW AND TELL THIS MONTH.

From Our President

Dear Quilting Friends,

I hope you’re all staying cool and finding time to sew during these hot August days! While the summer heat blazes outside, it's the perfect excuse to stay indoors and spend a few peaceful hours at our sewing machines.

Our guild continues to be filled with such talent and generosity—thank you to everyone who has contributed to our charity quilts, created beautiful projects for the fundraising sale, shared their knowledge, or simply shown up with a smile and a kind word. Each one of you helps make our guild a warm and inspiring community.

Don't forget, our upcoming meeting will feature our annual Auction. I encourage you all to attend and bring a friend! This is always such a fun evening and you never know what treasures you will find.  OUR MEETING WILL START AT 6PM AND THERE WILL NOT BE ANY SHOW AND TELL THIS MONTH.

As always, please reach out if you have ideas, questions, or just want to chat about quilting. Let’s keep stitching, sharing, and supporting one another.

Warmly,
Dana Sederoff
President, Scrapbasket Quilt Guild

Programs and Workshops

August Program - August 19

It’s  Annual Auction time!!!

It is the biggest fund raiser of the year!!
Come one, come all and bring a friend!!

Calling all quilters!
We all have some things to get rid of but could also use some new things, right?

The annual auction is this coming Tuesday, August 19th. The silent auction will begin at 6:00 pm, with the live auction starting at 7:00 pm. Please bring any quilt items you would like to auction off and fill out a bid ticket. Bid tickets will be provided at the meeting. Consider adding a minimum selling price. We will be setting up the auction at 5:00 pm, so if you want to come early to help set up, or if you need to fill out a bid ticket, we will be there.

Auction items can include fabric, UFOs, notions, books, puzzles, food, services (quilting) or anything that you think would make someone happy!  We will also have a pattern/book table so bring those too.

The pattern/book table will be priced at $1 each! There will be raffle tickets for the board basket which will also be $1 or 6 for $5.  We will accept cash or checks.

We will have baskets from the beelet for the live auction, and any items with more than 5 bids in the silent auction will automatically go to the live auction.

The auction is one of the biggest money makers for our guild, so please come to support our group.

Help bring great programs and activities to the guild next year!

Any questions?  Please reach out to Evelyn Stephenson (317-979-9785) or Cindi Johnson (317-379-6763)

Assistance Requested with Program Ideas

Calling all members for your input and suggestions for 2026 programs.  I seem to be hitting a lot of brick walls in my efforts and could really use your ideas.  Kristi has done such a great job this year, and she is really going to be a hard act to follow!  I don’t want to let you down.

We saw in April that Zoom meetings can be very instructive.  Techniques were shown that could not have been seen in person.  Personally, I would love to see a program on different binding techniques.  Have you noted someone on You-Tube, a podcast, or at another guild meeting you have attended that really caught your interest.  Please share any suggestion and I will research and follow up.  Your help is very appreciated.

Donation Quilts
Cindi Johnson

Request:  Did someone pick up a 108" wide back piece of maroon fabric from the Donation quilt area after the July meeting?  It was not intended to be taken and if possible, could you return it?  Thank you.

Fundraising

The response to the fundraising efforts for The Bow Wow Bash has been incredible!  I love seeing all the very creative and adorable items you all are making.  Please continue to bring your items to the meeting.  We will have a “special” Show and Tell in September just for fundraising and then we are able to collect and store your items.  Keep up the great work!

The Bow Wow Bash at Misty Eyes Animal Center
September 28th from 12 PM – 5PM.

Quilts of Valor

The Quilt of Valor block of the year for 2025 is the log cabin. If you picked up one of the QOV log cabin block kits available at the July meeting, please return it on or before the September meeting.

There will be more log cabin block kits available to pick up in August, as well as some simple four patch block kits, if log cabin is not your forte.

Of course, you are more than welcome to create a Quilt of Valor of your own. Please check the QOV website at qovf.org for ideas and guidelines to follow when making a Quilt of Valor.

Currently we are looking for volunteers for the following:

  • a completed quilt top in need of quilting

  • a group or individual to sew the log cabin blocks into a quilt top, after they have been collected in September

If you would like to volunteer for the above or have questions about Quilts of Valor, please see Mary Deremer or Kathy Walker at the guild meetings, or contact us at:

Mary Deremer deremer1048@gmail.com (317) 272-5206

Kathy Walker kjwalker1918@gmail.com (317) 935-7302

Volunteers Needed!

  • Need someone to handle sales of the fundraising items for the September meeting.  There have been so many cute and creative items shown in the past few months, and guild members might like to have first chance to make any purchases.  Some really nice items perfect for Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers.  The job is manning the table before the meeting and collecting money–easy peasy!

  • Speaking of Christmas…….need a group to volunteer to coordinate the Christmas party this year.  The menu will be a pitch in with the Guild providing the entrée.  We need help with decorations, entertainment (games and/or a performing group), set up and so forth.  Would be perfect for a beelet or group of friends.

  • PLEASE CONTACT DANA SEDEROFF TO VOLUNTEER.  YOUR HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

Info

Member to Member

This is an opportunity for you to list quilting items/supplies/patterns that you no longer want.

Thanks to everyone who brought me small pins for my craft project.  I used them to make ornaments that will be available for sale on the craft table.  I just wanted you to know that I already put them to use.
