From Our President

Hello Quilting Friends,

As summer winds down and the crisp air of fall starts to sneak in, I always find myself drawn back to my sewing room with renewed inspiration. September feels like a fresh start — much like the “new year” of quilting season! Whether you've been stitching through the heat or taking a well-deserved break, I hope you're feeling recharged and ready for all the creativity this season brings.

Last month’s auction was a great success, and your support is most appreciated.  A lot of hard work went into the preparation of so many treasures. This month’s meeting, An Evening with Well-Loved Ladies: Red & Green Traditions, by Robin Koehler, should be a fantastic journey into the past with a unique collection of vintage quilts.  They will inspire you to join us for the Hand Applique workshop the following day.

Hard to believe that it is time to start thinking about a new slate of officers and committee chairs for 2026, but if we are to have our elections in November, we need to start the work now.  Please think about how you would like to help with our Guild next year. I encourage everyone to jump in — whether you’ve been a member for years or just joined, there’s always room for more voices, more ideas, and more fabric!

As we head into the cozy months of quilting weather, let’s inspire one another, try something new, and, as always, celebrate our community of friendship.

Warmly,
Dana Sederoff
President, Scrapbasket Quilt Guild

Assistance Requested with Program Ideas

Calling all members for your input and suggestions for 2026 programs.  I seem to be hitting a lot of brick walls in my efforts and could really use your ideas.  Kristi has done such a great job this year, and she is really going to be a hard act to follow!  I don’t want to let you down.

We saw in April that Zoom meetings can be very instructive.  Techniques were shown that could not have been seen in person.  Personally, I would love to see a program on different binding techniques.  Have you noted someone on You-Tube, a podcast, or at another guild meeting you have attended that really caught your interest.  Please share any suggestion and I will research and follow up.  Your help is very appreciated.

Committee Activities

Block of the Month/Challenges
Beth Archer

Wow,  how did we turn the page into September already. This month’s challenge is themed: Fall and the technique is Painting or Thread Painting.  Think of all the vibrant colors that we see in the fall leaves and foliage. Use your imagination to bring scraps of fabric together in a collage fashion and let your 'fun self' show up as you draw with paint or thread to bring the block to life.

We are closing in on the end of the year and our SHOWCASE?  Your quilts and projects made from the blocks you created will be the STAR of the show, complete with a friendly contest and prizes.

Excited to see all your work for the September block...if you have caught on previous month's blocks.... bring them and show off at our meeting.

Cheer
Rhonda Nelson

If you know of any Scrapbasket member needing a little cheer, please let Rhonda Nelson know. She will be happy to send a card from all of us. Thank you.

Donation Quilts
Cindi Johnson

I have a young friend who is a social worker for Anchor of Love Hospice.  They have patients from all over Indiana and offices are located in Carmel. They receive Medicare funding in part from how many volunteer hours are given to them.  This might be a good place to donate some quilts.  I would get a background and drug check because I would have direct patient contact.  If a quilter wants a quilt donated to a hospice patient, the staff chooses which patient is most in need.  The quilter/agency gets volunteer credit for the hours it took to make the quilt, and internal credit for the time it takes me to bring the quilt(s) in to them and present to the patient. If patient agrees to be photographed, a pic can be taken of him/her with the quilt so that the quilter knows who it was given to.  It becomes that patient’s property and goes to the family after the patient passes.  If anyone wants to make a quilt for this group, document how many hours it took to make it. I think it is a win/win. They get more funding hours, and the quilter makes a quilt that is more of a personal gift.  This will not replace any of the other groups we donate to, your quilt just needs to be marked as a hospice quilt and how many hours it took.

Fundraising

Your participation in the fundraising projects has been amazing! This month we will have a “Presale” for our members at 6:30 pm. Personally, I’ve seen more than a couple of things that would make perfect, special gifts! We would welcome any additional items you have made for September with much gratitude.

Auction Thank you!!

Thank you for a very fun and successful Auction last month! We raised over $2,000.00!  This is amazing! Thank you to all of those who contributed items to be sold, the auction could not be a success without your efforts of cleaning out your sewing area and stashes. Thank you for coming with cash and checkbooks wide open, obviously this is a BIG help! Thank you to those of you who stayed late and helped clean up and put the tables and chairs away. Your efforts are appreciated more than you know. The money raised will help pay for our line up of speakers for next year. Congratulations to each of you on this great fund raising effort!

Until next year,
Evelyn and Cindi

Quilts of Valor

Mary has been busy sorting through the fabric available for Quilts of Valor and we have log cabin, friendship star, and four patch block kits available, created from some of the stash. Please feel free to pick up a kit and contribute to a quilt of valor by completing a block! Kindly return any kits picked up this month on or before the November meeting.

If you picked up one of the QOV log cabin block kits available at the July meeting and have not returned it yet, please return it (completed or not) this month. Our goal is to have at least one quilt completed by the end of the year.

If any group or individual would like to volunteer to sew the completed log cabin blocks together to form the quilt top, please let us know.

For questions or to volunteer, please see Mary DeRemer or Kathy Walker at the guild meetings, or contact us at:

Volunteers Needed!

Speaking of Christmas…….need a group to volunteer to coordinate the Christmas party this year.  The menu will be a pitch in with the Guild providing the entrée.  We need help with decorations, entertainment (games and/or a performing group), set up and so forth.  Would be perfect for a beelet or group of friends.

PLEASE CONTACT DANA SEDEROFF TO VOLUNTEER.  YOUR HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

Show and Tell

We did not have Show and Tell in August because of the Auction.  We should have twice as much to show in September.  Remember to bring in your projects to share!!

Photo Directory Reminder

Please don't forget to email jenna0327@gmail.com a photo of yourself for the directory, thanks!!
