From Our President
Dear Guild Members,
October has arrived, bringing with it cooler days, cozy evenings, and the perfect excuse to snuggle under a quilt. This season always reminds me of the beauty in rich autumn colors—burnt orange, golden yellow, deep burgundy, and earthy browns. These are some of my favorite colors!
As we enter the last few months of 2025, I want to thank each of you for the creativity, energy, and joy you bring to our guild. Whether you are stitching for a show, working on holiday gifts, or simply enjoying the slow process of handwork, your efforts keep the spirit of quilting alive and thriving.
This month our very own Claudia Lash will be our program presenter. She will focus on embellishing quilts. It should be a fun and informative event you won’t want to miss!
We had our fundraising event at the Bow Wow Bash recently. Our initial intake was around $300. Not as much as we had hoped for but we didn’t take it “personally”. People just weren’t shopping. We still have an inventory of beautiful items we will be selling at a future show. Details to follow. The response from members has been incredible and your donations and efforts are so appreciated.
Lastly, we approach year end and will be looking for volunteers to help in various positions for 2026. We cannot support the activity of the guild without your help and assistance. I speak from experience – you will gain more in the end. Working on committees is a great way to meet people and establish new friendships. Please think long and hard about how you may be able to help next year.
I have been working on programs for 2026 and am excited about options as they slowly but surely come together. Kristi has done an amazing job with programs this year which has been a hard act to follow but doing my best. Who will be the person to pick the 2027 programs? Think about it and know you will have support and guidance.
Warmly,
Dana Sederoff

Block of the Month/Challenges
Beth Archer
It sure doesn't feel like October BUT all the fall foliage and beautiful colors are starting to paint the landscape. October Block of the Month/Challenge theme is Halloween with Reverse Applique the featured technique. So many different angles you could take with this month and a great way to learn to layer different colors and textures to produce the applique. If you are not a Halloween fan, think harvest moon or smiling faced pumpkins or fall textured trees. Abstract designs and textured fabrics can be so fun to display using the reverse applique technique.
We are closing in on the end of the year and our SHOWCASE? It is NOT TOO LATE to get your blocks from previous months ready. Your quilts and projects made from the blocks you created will be the STAR of the show, complete with a friendly contest and prizes. Our Prize categories will be:
Best of Show
Most Creative
Fan Favorite
Use of Color
Use of Technique
Excited to see all your work.

Donation Quilts
Cindi Johnson
I have a young friend who is a social worker for Anchor of Love Hospice. They have patients from all over Indiana and offices are located in Carmel. They receive Medicare funding in part from how many volunteer hours are given to them. This might be a good place to donate some quilts. I would get a background and drug check because I would have direct patient contact. If a quilter wants a quilt donated to a hospice patient, the staff chooses which patient is most in need. The quilter/agency gets volunteer credit for the hours it took to make the quilt, and internal credit for the time it takes me to bring the quilt(s) in to them and present to the patient. If patient agrees to be photographed, a pic can be taken of him/her with the quilt so that the quilter knows who it was given to. It becomes that patient’s property and goes to the family after the patient passes. If anyone wants to make a quilt for this group, document how many hours it took to make it. I think it is a win/win. They get more funding hours, and the quilter makes a quilt that is more of a personal gift. This will not replace any of the other groups we donate to, your quilt just needs to be marked as a hospice quilt and how many hours it took.

Quilts of Valor
PLEASE check your sewing rooms for any remaining log cabin block kits and return them to the October meeting, even if they are not completed! We are especially looking for any remaining log cabin blocks with gold centers. We need at least three more returned to complete our quilt layout.
Friendship star or four-patch block kits can be turned in at a later meeting if they are not yet completed. These are destined for a quilt to be finished next year.
If any group or individual would like to volunteer for the following, please let us know:
Sewing the log cabin blocks together into a quilt top
Quilting a completed quilt top
Quilts of Valor will be holding off on any other projects for the rest of the year due to the holidays.

President's Block
It's getting to the close of the year. It's time to get our blocks ready for our President. She has chosen a House block. Below are the instructions. Please complete a block, sign it on the front of the block, and bring it by the December meeting in which we can present the blocks to her. I will be collecting the blocks before the meetings.
