Scrapbasket Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes - May 2026

Call to Order

The May 2026 meeting of the Scrapbasket Quilt Guild was called to order at 7:02 PM on 05/19/2026 in Brownsburg, IN. Forty-five members and two guests were cheerfully welcomed by president Sandy Beard. She began the meeting by reading a paragraph describing “The Average Quilter”.

Announcements:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to a conflict with the church, the July 2026 meeting will be held on the SECOND Tuesday of July instead of our usual third Tuesday. Mark your calendars now for July 14 th 2026.

  • Thank you to all who have sold raffle tickets, please keep it up!

  • Our guild has been asked to assist Love It Sew with a quilt show in April of 2027, to which we have responded affirmatively. Details are not yet available.

  • The guild needs someone to assume the role of Vice President next year. Please consider volunteering for this position.

  • Our guests Leslie Kimery and Emily Schulte (employee of Love It Sew) were welcomed to the guild.

Committee Reports

Donations – Cindy Johnson:

o Cindy was not able to bring fabric to this meeting, she will bring it next time.

o If you would like to donate anything to the Hospice organization, please mark it with a sticky note. Otherwise it will go to our usual organizations.

Quilts of Valor – Kathy Walker:

o One beautiful, completed quilt of Valor was shown to the group, a Scrappy Star design, pieced by Susan Eaton and Mary DeRemer, quilted by Leean Soehnlin and bound by Beth Archer. The quilt was passed on to Libby Holmes, who will present it to a recipient.

o At next month’s meeting (June 2026), it is planned for one of our Quilts of Valor to be presented to a veteran by Libby Holmes.

o The Quilts of Valor group from Love It Sew have invited us to participate in their QOV Sew Days. The next sew day will be at the Love It Sew quilt shop on June 19 th at 10:00 AM. Leslie Kimery (one of our guests tonight) and our member Lanette will be coordinating the group after the retirement of Libby Holmes.

o All available Diamond Chain block kits have been distributed.

o Three quilts are ready to be quilted by volunteers.

Retreat – Mary Lynne Meranda: A sign-up sheet for a retreat in the fall at Tammy Earnst’s retreat house was passed around to gather names of interested members. Cost will be around $106 per day, per person, with a 3-day minimum. Food is not provided.

Challenges – Beth Archer: The theme for May was to complete a UFO for a garment or accessory. Four ladies shared their completed challenges.

Block of the Month – Linda Cook: This month the goal was to complete blocks 31-40 from Tula Pinks’s book of 100 Modern Quilt Blocks. Several members displayed their creations. Next month’s goal will be blocks 41-50.

  • Mary Lynne Meranda announced that Project Linus needs 150 small quilts for a community shower by September 1 st . The quilts should be not smaller than 36” square and not larger than 48” square. If you have anything to donate, you may give it to Mary Lynne or drop it off at Love It Sew.

Refreshments – Linda Paulson: Thank you to the Fat Eighths Beelet for providing the refreshments this evening. A sign-up sheet was passed around for refreshments at future meetings.

Show and Tell: Nine members shared their recent inspiring quilt projects. Look for pictures in the next newsletter.

Cheer – Rhonda Nelson:

o Door prizes tonight went to Emily Schulte for the Visitor prize and to Cindy Johnson for Show and Tell.

Program

  • Tonight’s speaker, Diane McElwain from Ohio, was introduced by Tammie Earnst. Her presentation topic was Studio 180 tools and she provided a fun, interactive and impressive description of rulers available from Studio 180 and displayed many beautiful quilts made by using the rulers. All the tools she described are available for purchase at the Love It Sew quilt shop in Avon.
