Scrapbasket Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes - April 2026

Call to Order

The April meeting of the Scrapbasket Quilt Guild was called to order at 7:00 PM on 04/21/2026 in Brownsburg, IN.

Forty-one members and 3 guests were welcomed by president Sandy Beard.

Program

Tonight’s program by Zoom meeting was held first with the business meeting following. The speaker was Carol Wilhoit, who presented a highly informative and helpful lecture entitled “Get Your Stash Together: Organization for Quilters.” She also provided a useful handout with details of the information covered. The program concluded at approximately 8:00 pm after which there was a brief break to stretch our legs before the business meeting.

Committee Reports

Donations – Cindy Johnson: After we conclude our business, we have a speaker from Amedisys Hospice who will provide information as to how we can support their mission with our donations.

Block of the Month – Linda Cook:

o This month the goal was to complete blocks 21-30 from Tula Pinks’s book of 100 Modern Quilt Blocks. Several members displayed their creations. Next month’s goal will be blocks 31-40. As another option, some members are completing the blocks in any order.

o Please note the instructions at the beginning of the triangles section and follow the symbol given to use the correct method.

o Heather K. cautioned us that the squares for block #37 may need to be cut at 5” in order to end up with a 4-1/2 inch square.

  • Three guests were warmly welcomed to the meeting and told us a little about themselves. They were Ruthie Kerr, Val Meyer and Janet Bolt.

Challenges – Beth Archer:

o AsPlanned, some members brought UFO’s for exchange with another member. These were available on a table from which you could leave one and take one.

o The theme for April was to complete a UFO with a spring theme. Five members shared their completed challenges.

o Next month’s theme is to complete a garment or accessory (purse, jacket or any item to be worn).

o Names were drawn and prizes awarded to four members who had participated in the challenges so far this year.

Quilts of Valor – Kathy Walker:

o Two completed quilts of Valor were shown to the group, the Friendship Star and Log Cabin designs, with blocks that were completed by membership last year and quilted by Heather Kopeschka and Beth Archer. These quilts were handed over to Libby Holmes, who will be presenting them to recipients.

o New block kits are available for the next planned quilts, using the Diamond Chain pattern.

o One quilt is still available for quilting by a volunteer.

Quilt Show announcement - Sandy Beard:

o The Love It Sew quilt shop is in the planning stages of holding a quilt show in April 2027 at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds and has asked for our help. This may involve jobs like organizing quilts, judging, white glove monitoring, door monitoring, cashiering, and bringing quilts for the show.

o The general consensus, judging by the number of heads nodding, is that the members are willing to participate in the event.

o A few questions asked were: Will this benefit our guild in some way, such as raising funds for the guild?, May we sell raffle quilt tickets at the event?, Will we get free admission?

o Mary Lynne Meranda will act as go-between for this event.

Raffle quilt – Sandy Beard: We made $207 by selling raffle tickets at Love It Sew. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Treasurer’s report – Jenna Chamberlain: Funds available currently are $6277. More raffle ticket money collected tonight will be added to the total.

Refreshments – Linda Paulson: Thank you to Sarah Mulholland, Rhonda Nelson and Susan Eaton for providing the refreshments this evening.

Show and Tell: Nine members shared their recent inspiring quilt projects. Look for pictures in the next newsletter.

  • Erin Silha, volunteer coordinator from Amedisys Hospice, spoke about her hospice organization and how our guild can help.

o They accept quilts, pillows, pillowcases, lap blankets, fidget quilts, wheelchair bags, memory items such as memory bears, or anything else that would be of use to a hospice patient.

o Patients are mostly elderly, but hospice services are provided for all ages.

o Patients are either in a nursing facility or at their home.

o To donate items, we may contact Erin directly to coordinate a pickup.

o If anyone is interested in volunteering in other ways, they need that kind of help as well.

o She left a flyer with more information, including her email address, which is erin.silha@amedisys.com.

Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 8:57 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Walker, Secretary
