Call to Order
The March meeting of the Scrapbasket Quilt Guild was called to order at 7:03 PM on 03/17/2026 in Brownsburg, IN.
Forty-three members and 1 guest were welcomed by president Sandy Beard.
Announcements
Sandy Beard:
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Thank you to those who volunteered at the Bloomington Quilt Show as well as those who helped sell raffle tickets for our guild.
More opportunities to sell raffle quilt tickets are available Wednesday – Saturday March 18-21 at Love It Sew. Some shifts still needed to be filled.
Each guild member is expected to sell at least 24 tickets ($20).
Dana S: We want to thank Jenna Chamberlain for all her work and dedication last year producing the T-shirts and sweatshirts with the Scrapbasket logo. This was an impressive project that she took upon herself to do as a fundraiser and it was greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jenna!
Libby Holmes: Shared the “National Quilt Project,” which is an idea to encourage solidarity amid the current polarization in our country. The end objective is an enormous quilt to lay on the lawn of the National Mall in Washington D.C. with blocks from makers across the country. Instructions are to make an 18” square with ties on the corners, of any design you choose in the spirit of love and unity. More information is available at the website nationalquiltproject.org.
Committee Reports
Donations – Cindy Johnson: Two bins are in the lobby for donations, one is for completed projects and the other is for loose materials. The loose materials bin will be available for a few months if you would like to use some of it for your donation quilts. After a few months the remaining supplies will be donated to other organizations.
Refreshments – Linda Paulson:
o Thank you to Cindy Johnson and Bonnie Miller for providing the refreshments this evening. A signup sheet was passed around for volunteers for future meeting refreshments.
Treasurer’s report – Jenna Chamberlain: We received money from ticket sales at the Bloomington quilt show. We will need to concentrate on good fundraising this year in order to finance next year’s programs.
Block of the Month – Linda Cook: This month the goal was to complete blocks 11-20 from Tula Pinks’s book of 100 Modern Quilt Blocks. There was good participation with quite a few members showing their results. Next month’s goal will be blocks 21-30. Several members are working ahead of schedule.
Challenges – Amy Gilmore (for Beth Archer):
o Reminder: In April, bring a UFO that you would like to exchange with another member.
o If you bring a completed challenge, please sign in on the log sheet when arriving for the meeting.
o The theme for March was to complete your oldest (or any other) UFO. A few members shared their completed challenges.
Quilts of Valor – Kathy Walker:
o If you took home a block kit in February that had an incorrectly sized blue rectangle, replacements are available in the lobby.
o We are missing several Echoes blocks from kits that volunteers picked up in January. They have a center square that is red with gold stars in a starburst design. Please check your sewing rooms and if you have one of these kits, please bring it back (completed or not) as soon as possible.
Show and Tell: Several members shared their recent inspiring quilt projects. Look for pictures in the next newsletter.
Cheer – Rhonda Nelson:
o Our guest, Leah McKay, was introduced to the guild and she spoke briefly about her quilting background.
o Amy Gilmore received the door prize for show and tell.
Program:
Tonight’s meeting was a trunk show by Connie Lancaster from Quilts Plus in Lebanon. She is also a former member and past president of our guild. The theme of her presentation was “scrap busting ideas.” She presented and discussed some of her lovely and fun quilts and patterns as inspiration to use up our stash (so that we have room to purchase more fabric)! Her website is quilts plus.com for those who would like more information about her classes or business.
Adjournment
The program concluded at approximately 8:20 PM. Members gathered informally to browse and
purchase fabric and patterns.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Walker, Secretary
