From Our President

How can it be that 2026 is already half over? We have only five months left in the year! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend celebrating our country's 250th birthday.

I'd like to give you an update on our 2026 Raffle Quilt. So far, we have collected $1,627 in ticket sales. Thank you to everyone who has turned in their ticket money. Please continue selling tickets until our drawing in October. Every ticket sold helps support our guild, and we appreciate all your efforts!

Speaking of raffle quilts, Kristi Slinker's team has begun work on our 2027 Raffle Quilt. At our last meeting, everyone had the opportunity to choose printed paper-piecing patterns to take home, with many different designs available. If you missed last month's meeting, there's still plenty of time to pick up some patterns and join the fun.

This is a wonderful way for everyone to contribute at their own pace from the comfort of home. Instead of organizing multiple sewing sessions, members can work on their blocks whenever it's convenient, making it easy for everyone to participate. We look forward to seeing all of the beautiful blocks come together into another amazing raffle quilt!

Upcoming Guild Auction

August is our annual Guild Auction! This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, and we need everyone's help to make it a success.

Now is the perfect time to start gathering items to donate. We're looking for fabric, rulers, kits, pre-cuts, patterns, unfinished projects (UFOs), quilting books, notions, and just about anything quilting-related that someone else might enjoy.

Last year we filled approximately 15 round tables with wonderful treasures, and we're hoping to make this year's auction even bigger and better!

Beelets—this is a great opportunity to work together and create a themed gift basket for the auction. Put your creativity to work by combining quilting supplies, sewing notions, or even a fun theme that will attract bidders. Your basket can help raise even more money for our guild while showcasing the teamwork and talent of your Beelet.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. Every donation helps make our auction a fun event and a successful fundraiser for our guild!

As we look ahead to the coming months, please continue working on your Challenge projects, Block of the Month quilt blocks, and Quilts of Valor blocks. Every stitch you make helps strengthen our guild and supports the many projects we are proud to be a part of.

Thank you to everyone who gives so generously of your time, talents, and energy. Whether you volunteer, donate, sew, sell raffle tickets, or simply lend a helping hand, your contributions make our guild the wonderful organization it is. I appreciate each and every one of you, and I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!

Raffle Quilt Update

Please continue to sell tickets and\or donate at least $20 per member to help fund this project which helps with next year's programs. Our goal is $2000.00.
Our drawing will be in October 2026.

It's Time to Start the 2027 Raffle Quilt!!

For our next raffle quilt, we will be making 6" Scrappy Triangles in 50 Different Foundations Half-Square Triangle Quilt Blocks by Leila Gardunia using her foundation paper piecing patterns.

Patterns will be available for pickup at the check-in tables during our next meeting.

Please use your own scrap fabrics for the triangle sections and do not trim the edges down. The Piecing Group will provide and add the solid background pieces when assembling the quilt.

We hope everyone will participate in creating one to three blocks for a variety of colorful, scrappy blocks. To allow time for assembly, please return your completed blocks by the September meeting.

Thank you for helping create another beautiful raffle quilt!

Quilts of Valor

On July 1st, veteran James S. received his Quilt of Valor in a ceremony arranged by Libby Holmes. (This is the recipient that was unable to attend our Scrapbasket meeting last month.) He served in the Army from 1966 to 1968 and was stationed in Vietnam. The quilt was lovingly made by Scrapbasket members.

Reminder: Please bring any completed “Diamond Chain” blocks or rows to the July meeting. Be sure to sign in on the log sheet(s) when you return them. All kits are due within two months of taking them home. If you are unable to finish the kit within this time, please return it unfinished to keep our projects moving.

Volunteer opportunities:

  • We will have a few more packages of eight Diamond Chain blocks, which need to be sewn together into rows, available at the July meeting.

  • Three quilt tops are completed and ready for quilting by volunteers. Kindly let us know if you are willing to help. The guild will reimburse the cost of the thread used for this.

QOV Sew Days at Love It Sew: The QOV group at Love It Sew has invited us to participate in their QOV sew days. They have projects available to work on, or you may bring your own Quilt of Valor project. Gatherings take place in the classroom, starting shortly after 10 AM, and lasting until about 12 or 1 PM. Future planned dates to mark on your calendar are as follows (check the Love It Sew website for updated calendar information.),

Retreat Update

Due to less that stellar interest in retreats, I have tabled a retreat for this year. I guess we are getting to the point of not wanting to load up and move all our sewing equipment. I don’t blame you, as I am not inclined to pack up and have to pay big money to sew.

There are other ways to enjoy your sewing buddies.  The first Monday of the month, Love it Sew has Project Linus Day. You can come and sew from 10-2, free. No equipment needed as everything is there and we have a nice group of ladies that gather.

I would suggest a group of you get together for a quick trip to a neighboring quilt shop.  A group of us went to Greencastle to Purl and Sew, and then ate next door. A fun getaway.  Spencer is always a fun trip and maybe a longer trip to Shipshewanna.

Make your summer fun with your friends
