Committee Reports
Donations – Cindy Johnson:
o Last year’s donated items have all been distributed to various organizations.
Names were drawn and prizes awarded for last year’s donations.
o Organizations to which we donate items include Quilts for Kids, Project Linus,
Hospice and nursing homes. Suggestions are welcomed if there is a specific idea
for a person or organization that could use donations.
o Items that can be donated include quilts, unfinished quilt tops, fabric and
pillowcases.
Refreshments – Linda Paulson: Thank you to Dana Sederoff for providing the cake and
cupcakes tonight. A signup sheet was passed around for volunteers to provide
refreshments in the upcoming months.
Cheer – Rhonda Nelson:
o Condolences to Denise Zahrn, whose mother has passed away.
o Lynette Gilley, our new member this month, was welcomed to the guild.
Raffle quilt – Sandy Beard:
o We have two quilts to raffle off this year. One was a group effort and the other
was donated to the guild by Dana Sederoff. Both are finished except for the
sleeve and label.
o We will be selling tickets for the raffle at the annual quilt show in Bloomington on
March 5-7, however, as a group, we need to donate thirty hours of volunteer time
to the quilt show. Please sign up by following the link in the newsletter or on the
Scrapbasket website. You will receive free admission to the quilt show.
Block of the Month – Linda Cook: We are making blocks from Tula Pinks’s book of 100
Modern Quilt Blocks, available from Amazon. The details are listed for each month on
the Scrapbasket website. For February, the goal is to complete blocks 1-10. Linda and
other members who had already completed blocks showed their creations.
Challenges – Beth Archer:
o We are completing UFO’s for our monthly challenges this year. There are
suggestions on the website for each month’s theme, but you may also complete
any UFO in your stash and it will count. What is considered “complete” is up to
you.
o In April, we will bring an unfinished project to exchange with another member.
o The theme for January was to complete a Christmas project. Several members
shared their completed challenges.
o Mary Lynne Meranda shared that there is a form on allpeoplequilt.com that helps
with working on UFO’s.
Quilts of Valor – Kathy Walker and Mary DeRemer:
o Beth Archer completed the quilting and binding on one of the log cabin quilts that
members pieced last year and Kathy showed the completed quilt. It will be
donated to the QOV organization soon.
o The panel and block for the next two planned quilts of valor were on display and
block kits were distributed to volunteers for piecing.
Programs – Dana
o Tonight’s meeting was the annual birthday bash with no scheduled speaker.
o Dana provided a summary of all the interesting programs and workshops that
have been scheduled for the coming year.
o The February program will be a lecture and trunk show by Connie Waas, a local
quilter and one of the founding members of our guild.
Show and Tell
Several members shared their recent impressive and inspiring quilt projects. Look for pictures
in the next newsletter.
Adjournment
